Distillation of essential oil
When most of the flowers on each stem have opened, the flowering enters its final stage. This is the time when the essential oils reach their peak, providing the strongest aroma and the best quality. To extract the essential oil, we use the steam distillation method.
We place the collected lavender in a special tank, into which steam is supplied under a certain pressure from below. Passing through the raw material, the steam rises to the top, absorbing particles of esters contained in the flowers and green mass of lavender. Then, through a special cooler, the steam enters a separate vessel in the form of drops of distilled water, and the oil, since it does not dissolve in water, floats to the surface, forming a film. Thus, water and steam act as a distillate, and the essence from the plant material becomes essential oil.

Using a Florentine vessel, the process of separating oil from water occurs. The resulting water is called Hydrolat.
To obtain 1 drop of essential oil, 2 kg of green mass of Lavender are needed
To produce 1 bottle of essential oil with a volume of 10 ml. it is necessary to convert 20 liters of water into steam. In time, this takes about 1 hour
In the process of distillation, we obtain essential oil and hydrolat (floral water). Lavender essential oil is one of the few oils that can be applied directly to the skin. Hydrolat is distilled water with the remains of essential oil.
